Welcome to the Radisson Fort George! This hotel is the premier hotel in Belize City, but it is starting to get some competition. The rooms are comfortable and stately, but leaning towards the expensive side of things.

Trip Advisor Reviews and other photos

The room was clean and we were well-looked-after. The staff at the front desk poked fun at me for my signature. I guess I have to work on my penmanship if I am going to be a traveller...

Seriously though, everyone was gracious and quick to serve and willing to listen to any request. They should be duly complimented. Special shout-outs got to Elito, Gilbert, Israel and Daniel-- awesome lads!

There are four places to eat at the Radisson. We would recommend you try them all at least once.

The Baymen's Tavern is kind of like a pub with a family restaurant around it. Imagine Kelsey's menu but with a much better patio and scenery. This was our first meal in Belize and Gilbert was an awesome server. I think it surprised him a bit that we would take a photo of him. But he did return the favour and took this shot of us.

For more formal meals, The St. George's Dining Room is incredible. It wasn't terribly busy each time we went, but that might have been because we were on tourist time. And, it was pricey. The meals were exquisite however, and the wait staff were great.

Le Petit Cafe is a kind of coffee/pastry shop. Good for breakfast or lunch or a quick bite.

The Stone Grill Cafe is an experience onto itself. Whatever it is you order comes on hot volcanic stone and it cooks right before your eyes. Be selective with the menu, some things cook a little cleaner on the hot stone than others, but everything tastes wonderful. Take your time with it too. Order a few drinks and relax because it is seriously hot and you will want some time to enjoy the experience. The different salsas help for cooling -- papaya, watermelon, mango and tomato, all very nice. The menu is a touch expensive, but you will remember the meal forever. Just don't burn your tongue!

Birds seem to like the Radisson. I don't know why we took so many photos of birds, it's not like we are avid bird-watchers or anything. Maybe it was just a noticeably different thing-- "Oh look, we don't have that bird in Canada. What is it?"

Across the Road is The Great House, another hotel. The restaurant at the Great House is called The Smokey Mermaid. The menu is fabulous although I might quietly say it seemed a little too North American-ish, if you know what I mean. I didn't go to Belize to have pasta meals. They do have a variety of seafood delights as well, and there is a lot more on the menu. I guess if you want something you know you will recognize and enjoy, then this restaurant could be for you. The dining area was absolutely beautiful, with almond trees and shaded tables. It is completely worth the experience.
